OPERATION SPOTLIGHT:

A 1940’s COMMUNITY TALENT SHOW

What Kind of Talents Fit the Era?

Family Friendly Talents should reflect the styles of performances popular during the 1940s, including:

  • Singing

Solo vocalists inspired by classic 1940s singers such as, but not limited to, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Vera Lynn, and other wartime favorites.

  • Instrumental Performances

Jazz, big band, brass solos, accordion pieces, country music, and small instrumental combos.

  • Dancing

Tap, swing, jitterbug, and Jive performances that mirror the energetic social dances of the decade.

  • Comedy & Variety

Lighthearted stand-up, short skits, impersonations, or classic stage humor.

  • Magicians & Jugglers

Illusionists or juggling acts reminiscent of vaudeville and traveling shows.

  • Specialty Acts

Strongman demonstrations, novelty acts, ventriloquists, or other unique talents.

  • Recitations & Drama

Poems, dramatic readings, speeches, or short theatrical pieces suited to the era.

If your act reflects the entertainment of the 1940s, we want to see it take the stage.

Step Into the Lights of the 1940s

Operation Spotlight invites performers ages twelve and up to take the stage during Historical Frontline Events’ Operation Homecoming weekend. Held on North Fulton Street between Elm Street and Oak Street, this unique talent showcase brings the spirit of 1940s entertainment to life through music, dance, comedy, variety acts, and more.

Whether you arrive dressed in full 1940s style or simply come as you are, performers will have the opportunity to bring audiences back to a time when swing music, heartfelt vocals, and classic variety shows filled communities across America. This is your chance to shine where the homefront meets history.

Be Part of the Homefront

Operation Spotlight is one of several new features in the expanded Homefront Area at Operation Homecoming. As spectators explore immersive WWII camps, battlefield reenactments, and living-history displays, they will also enjoy 1940s-style entertainment, a USO-inspired pageant, swing dance music, and live performances.

This talent show gives you the chance to help bring that era to life.
