Miss Victory: A USO Style Pageant
Celebrating the Spirit, Strength, and Style of the 1940s
Miss Victory is a signature event of Historical Frontline Events Operation Homecoming. This USO style pageant invites women ages twelve through ninety nine and older to step into the heart of the 1940s and bring the Homefront spirit to life on stage. Contestants will progress through themed segments that honor the culture, fashion, dedication, and resilience that defined American communities during World War Two.
The pageant will take place on North Fulton Street, between Elm Street and Oak Street, inside the newly expanded Homefront area of the event. 1940s style attire is required for all participants, creating a fully immersive and historically inspired experience for spectators and contestants alike.
A Short Message on Practicality
We understand that the word authentic can sometimes feel overwhelming or difficult to achieve. Please know that your clothing does not need to be original to the 1940s. Modern pieces that simply look and feel like they belong in the era are perfectly acceptable. This does not mean everyday modern clothing such as jeans, but rather clothing made today that follows a 1940s style.
The goal of Miss Victory is to create an enjoyable atmosphere where everyone can have fun, express themselves, and take part in a night that brings the past to life. We want participants to feel comfortable, confident, and excited as they step into the spirit of the 1940s.
If anyone has any questions, concerns, are is looking for guidance, please reach out to our event organizers as they would be happy to help in what ever way possible.
Segment One - Opening Number
Our Miss Victory pageant begins with an energetic opening number that sets the tone for the entire program. Contestants perform a short routine inspired by the dances and USO stage style of the 1940s. Depending on the number of participants, music selections may include one of the following classic songs. Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Sing Sing Sing, Hold Tight, Hold Tight, or Six Jerks in a Jeep.
To begin the show, a brief skit may take place that leads into the song. All contestants appear in coordinated 1940s outfits that fit the day dress atmosphere.
Segment Two - Contestant Introductions
After the opening number, each contestant steps forward to introduce herself.
Contestants may share:
• Their name and where they are from
• Their favorite aspect of 1940s culture
• Why they chose to participate in Miss Victory and Operation Homecoming
This segment allows the audience to meet each participant in a relaxed and personal way.
Segment Three - Workwear and Homefront Presentation
This segment honors the women who supported the war effort at home. Contestants appear in clothing inspired by the wartime workforce, including factory attire, bandanas, overalls, nurse style uniforms, WAVES inspired styles, or civilian work dresses.
Each contestant will answer one question related to community, service, or Homefront character. Examples include:
• How would you have supported your community during World War Two
• What does service mean to you today
• What inspires you about the Homefront spirit
• If you could bring one 1940s value into our community today, what would it be
This portion encourages sincerity, patriotism, and thoughtful reflection.
Segment Four - Create Your Best USO Look
This segment focuses on the spirit and personality of classic USO performers. Contestants appear in their best USO inspired outfit, designed or assembled to reflect the energetic and morale boosting performances that entertained American troops during World War Two.
Outfit ideas include:
• USO camp show styles
• Patriotic themed dresses
• Stage ready skirts or blouses
• Red, white, and blue accents
• Service sweetheart inspired looks
• Victory curls, snoods, or simple hair flowers
Each contestant will walk the presentation area as the announcer provides a short description of her look. Judging highlights how well the outfit fits the spirit of a USO performance, along with presentation, authenticity, and stage presence. Upbeat big band or swing music helps set the tone for this lively portion of the pageant.
Segment Five - 1940s Evening Wear
The final judged segment highlights elegance, confidence, and the unmistakable glamour of 1940s evening fashion. Contestants reveal a formal look inspired by the fashions of the time.
Possible styles include:
• Hollywood golden age gowns
• Satin or silk inspired dresses
• Floor length or tea length evening wear
• Coordinated gloves, shawls, or small handbags
• Victory curls, polished waves, or classic hair rolls
• Soft classic makeup if contestants choose
Contestants will present their evening wear through a graceful walk or brief runway moment as soft instrumental music plays. The focus is on poise, authenticity, overall presentation, and the contestant’s ability to embody the refined style of wartime and post war America.
This segment provides a beautiful and dignified finish before the final USO finale portion of the pageant. A final narration from the MC may reflect on the close of the war in Europe and the renewed hope felt across America. This final moment brings Miss Victory to a heartfelt finish and captures the tone of the era.
